Not having the proper hygiene products, especially menstrual items, can keep a girl out of school which keeps her on the streets and at risk of falling prey to the lure of sex and the web of human trafficking.

Something as simple as a hygiene kit — with items like menstrual pads, soap, toilet paper, and a toothbrush — can make an adolescent girl feel better about herself. These kits are often called Dignity Kits because they can give a girl back her dignity. She’s allowed to go to school, and she feels good about her personal hygiene.

School gives these girls an education and greater self-confidence, and that results in them feeling empowered. And often, it starts with a much-needed sanitary pad.
