Alimo is just 13 years old. She came to ChildVoice’s Lukome Center as part of Class 17 earlier this year.

Alimo’s mother was her only family. In January of this year, her mother was killed by her stepfather when he became violent during a heated argument. The next day, Alimo’s stepfather threatened to kill her as well. Thankfully, she escaped and found refuge with a stranger, who brought her to local police.

When she arrived at the Lukome Center, she was overjoyed to be given a chance to rebuild her life.

“The day we gave Alimo a uniform and shoes, she was laughing – just looking at me and laughing,” said Richard Kyitarinyeba, ChildVoice Uganda Head of Office.

Today, Alimo is learning new life-transforming skills. Skills like hairdressing and tailoring. “ChildVoice is my family now,” she says. Her story is one of horrific violence and tragic loss – but also one of hope.
