He attended Lower Canada College in Montreal and Neuchatel Junior College in Neuchatel, Switzerland, and then obtained his BA Degree at the University of Toronto and his MBA at McGill University. He is married to Alice and has two daughters, Amelia and Alexandra.
Andrew’s work life revolved around Schonbek Worldwide Lighting, a manufacturer of crystal chandeliers founded in 1870 by his great grandfather. As its president, Schonbek fostered an environment of creativity in product design, process improvement, and innovative marketing. In 2007, he sold the business to Swarovski, the renowned Austrian manufacturer of luxury crystal products.
Andrew served extensively on the Board of Governors for the American Lighting Association, including as its President in 1990. He later was inducted into the ALA Hall of Fame. In addition, he has served on the boards of the Plattsburgh College Foundation, the Clinton County Area Development Corp., the Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Burlington, VT, the Isaiah 61 Foundation, and 150 Cherry Street, Inc.
Now retired from the business, and in addition to ongoing involvement in nonprofit work, Andrew has taken up fly-fishing, which he describes as “certainly the most complex endeavor known to man.”
